Fil-Am singer Steve Lacy ecstatic over winning first Grammy: ‘Thank you for acknowledging me’

Filipino-American singer-songwriter Steve Lacy is on cloud nine after he won his first-ever Grammy award for Best Progressive R&B Album for “Gemini Rights.”
Lacy’s album bested Cory Henry’s “Operation Funk,” Terrace Martin’s “Drones,” Moonchild’s “Starfruit” and Tank and the Bangas’ “Red Balloon.”
Lacy expressed gratitude to his supporters and to the Recording Academy for acknowledging him, through his Instagram page on Tuesday, Feb. 7. He also showed himself and his mother donning matching attire at the awarding ceremony.
“My mommy and I had the best time at the Grammys. Thank [you all] for your love and support,” he said in the caption. “It means the world to me.”
“I wake up and get paid to be myself. What a dream? Still waking up from this one. Gratitude on high. Love you guys,” he added. “Thank you [Recording Academy] for acknowledging me.”

Lacy was also nominated for several other Grammy awards such as Best Urban Contemporary Album for “Gemini Rights,” New Song of the Year, Best Pop Solo Performance and Record of the Year for his song “Bad Habit,” which he performed during the awarding ceremony.
Lacy was born to an African-American mother and Filipino-American father. The singer lost his father when he was 10.
Lacy is the most recent artist of Filipino descent to have won a Grammy award, following Olivia Rodrigo, H.E.R.—who were both present at this year’s ceremony—and Bruno Mars. /ra
