Actress Dimples Romana is not one to shy away from the challenges of her Selene character in “The Iron Heart,” even if her role required her to do fight scenes while wearing high heels.
Romana recalled being “scared” while doing her first fight scene.
“First fight scene ko, sobrang takot ko kasi nanggaling kami doon sa ibang eksena. Hindi ko na-realize na naka-heels pala ako. Since it’s continuity siya, ang taas ng heels ko, siguro mga four inches. Naka-boots ako. Buti na lang above the ankle siya. Somehow medyo safe siya,” Romana said Tuesday in an interview with this writer on the set of the series located in Cebu.
(My first fight scene, I was so scared because we came from a different scene. I didn’t realize that I was on high heels. Since it’s continuity, my heels were high, about four inches. I was in a boots. It’s good that it’s above the ankle. Somehow, it is safe).
She credited the show’s directors Lester Pimentel Ong and Richard Ibasco Arellano for taking care of her action scenes.
“They’re so good and they take everything into consideration. Medyo nahirapan ako nang slight pero alam mo naman tayong mga kababaihan, laban tayo, ‘di ba? (I was struggling slightly but you know how women are, we fight, right?) So, ‘ah, gusto mo pala action scenes. (So, you want action scenes). Hindi tayo para (magreklamo). (We’re not there to complain). When we were taking the scene, it was very difficult,” she said.
When it was shown on Facebook and it had more than 800,000 views and with thousands of likes and comments, she felt relieved.
“Ah, gusto pala nila ‘yun. Natuwa pala sila doon. Lalo akong na-ininspire,” she said. (Ah, they liked it. They were happy about it. It inspired me more).
Romana shared that before venturing into action, she tried playing tennis to improve her coordination. She also tried Muay Thai and now she does Pilates. EDV
