Sunshine Cruz opened up about her reconciliation with her ex-husband, actor Cesar Montano, saying she even advised him to “behave” in his relationship with his current partner, Kath Angeles.

The actress spoke about how her renewed friendship with Montano completed the “lacking piece” in their daughters’ lives, in an interview for “Fast Talk with Boy Abunda” on Thursday, Feb. 2.

“Very happy ako kasi nakikita ko kung paano nagsha-shine ang eyes ng mga anak ko, and sila na mismo ang nagsasabi na ‘yung piece na lacking sa heart nila [ay] nabuo ulit,” she told show host Boy Abunda. (I am very happy because I see how my daughters’ eyes shine, and they even told me that the lacking piece in their heart is now complete.)

“Sabi ko nga kay Cesar, ‘Magpakabait ka na d’yan kay Kath—napakaganda, napakabait. Napakaswerte mo,'” she added. “‘Mag-behave ka kasi kung hindi makakaaway niya kaming lahat ng mga anak ko.'”

(I even told Cesar, “Be good to Kath—she’s very pretty, kind. You are very lucky. You should behave or else you’ll find an enemy in me and my children.”)

Cruz and Abunda also discussed her past as a “sexy star,” with the actress admitting that she came to a point when she regretted that part of her life as it was one of the reasons behind her separation from Montano.

“There was a time na ni-regret ko ‘yon, especially naging malaking parte ‘yon ng aking separation ng aking ex-husband,” she continued. “But at the end of the day, mas naging stronger ako, mas natuto ako and ang ginawa ko ay pinatunayan ko sa mga tao na hindi lang ako sexy star or bold star—I can also be a singer, I can be an actress and most especially, I am a good mom.”

(There was a time when I regretted [being a sexy star], especially [because] it was a big factor in my separation from my ex-husband. But at the end of the day, I became stronger, and I learned. [What I did] was I proved to the public that I am not just a sexy star or a bold star—I can also be a singer, I can be an actress and most especially, I am a good mom.)

During the interview, Cruz also spoke about her breakup with Macky Mathay and said that she chose to keep mum about it for the sake of his and the actress’ kids.

“Ang na-realize ko dito sa relationship [with Macky] and even with Cesar, tatlo ang importanteng bagay sa relationship, hindi lang love. Dapat nando’n ang trust at respect,” she said. “‘Pag may isang nawala do’n, it’s not going to work.”

(What I realized in my past relationships with Macky and Cesar is that there are three important factors in a relationship, and it’s not just love. There should also be trust and respect. When you lose any of the three, it’s not going to work.)

Cruz admitted that both her past relationships with Montano and Mathay failed due to lack of trust.

“Of course, when I was with Cesar, I wanted to grow old with him—[the same] with Macky,” she stated. “Pero kahit magplano tayo sa buhay natin kung hindi ‘yun ang destiny natin, hindi mangyayari.” (But even if we plan out our lives, if it’s not our destiny then it will not happen.)

When Abunda asked Cruz if a third party was involved in her split with Mathay, the actress responded, “Parang wala ako sa posisyon na magsalita tungkol d’yan.” (I feel like I’m not in a position to speak up on that matter.)

Sunshine and Montano separated in 2013, and their marriage was annulled in 2018. The former couple celebrated New Year together with their children Angelina, Sam and Chesca, as well as Angeles, in Bohol.

Meanwhile, Sunshine and Mathay first sparked breakup speculations last September after netizens noticed that they had unfollowed each other on Instagram.  /ra
