Dolly de Leon cried, ‘felt bad’ after Oscars snub but stresses: ‘Yung mga nominees, they all deserve it’

Dolly de Leon confessed that she cried and “felt bad” for a few days after she was not included among the best supporting actress nominees for this year’s Academy Awards.
The “Triangle of Sadness” actress admitted that the Oscar snub initially affected her, but she stressed that she is already over it and that all the nominees are deserving of the nods. De Leon spoke about this during an interview for TV Patrol on Wednesday, Feb. 1.
“Umiyak ako, nalungkot ako (I cried, I felt sad). I felt bad,” she said. “I felt bad for about two to three days and then after that, OK na ‘ko (I was already OK).”
She also expressed support for the best supporting actress nominees, especially American actress Jamie Lee Curtis who De Leon apparently roots for.
“Ang importante nakakuha tayo ng buzz,” she addressed her fans. “‘Yung mga nominees, they all deserve it. Kung mag-aasim tayo wala namang magagawa ‘yon e. Love love lang tayo.”
(What’s important is that we generated buzz. The nominees—they all deserve it. Even if we sulk [over the snub], it won’t do anything. Let’s just [spread] love.)
Aside from Curtis who was nominated for her role in “Everything Everywhere All at Once,” other celebrities vying for the best supporting actress award are Angela Bassett (“Black Panther: Wakanda Forever”), Hong Chau (“The Whale”), Kerry Condon (“The Banshees of Inisherin”) and Stephanie Hsu (“Everything Everywhere All at Once”).
“Triangle of Sadness,” meanwhile, earned Oscar nominations for the best picture, best director and best original screenplay.
De Leon played the role of Abigail, a cleaner and “toilet manager,” in “Triangle of Sadness.” Her performance in the satirical black comedy film earned several recognitions including the best supporting actress nominations from the Golden Globe Awards and British Academy Film Awards (BAFTA).
She also recently bagged the best supporting actress award at the Guldbagge Awards, Sweden’s equivalent of the Academy Awards. /ra
