Despite his massive popularity, Coco Martin does not feel like he has what it takes to become a politician, saying that public service is not really his forte.

“Ang feeling ko kasi ay hindi ‘yun ang forte ko. Hindi ako doon magaling (I feel that it is not my forte. It is not where I am good at),” he said when asked if he will enter politics during his launch as the newest ambassador of a pharmaceutical brand recently.

Martin further disclosed that during the campaign season, he would be asked if he has any political plans, and his answers had always been the same — a gentle “no.”

“Actually, every time kapag may kampanya, lagi po sa akin tinatanong ‘yan. Hindi naman po lumalapit, tinatanong lang kung may plano o may gusto,” he said. “Hindi po talaga (It’s really a no).”

(Every time there is a campaign, I would be always asked that. They were not really courting me [to join politics], they were just asking if I have plans or if I want to).

Martin said that he doesn’t have the qualities of a public servant, and would rather campaign for someone who he believes in.

He said that at present he wants to engage in activities that would develop his artistry, be it as an actor or in directing.

“Hinahanap ko kung saan mas made-develop pa ang sarili ko, kung saan ako mas makakapag-explore pa. Nu’ng nakita ko po siya, hindi man ako nakapag-aral talaga sa mundong ginagalawan ko, sa creative, sa pagdidirek o sa pag-arte, pero nakita ko na may talent ako dito kahit papaano. Kaya dito ko talaga binubuhos ‘yung pagod, lakas at talino. Para sa akin, ito ang mahal ko. Dito ako masaya kahit pagod na pagod ako,” he said.

(I look where I will be able to develop myself more, where I can explore more. When I saw it, although I did not study in the world I live in, in the creative in directing and in acting, but I saw my talent. This is why I poured my fatigue, strength and intelligence. For me, this is what I love. This is where I am happy even though I am tired).

The actor has started taping for his next TV series, “Batang Quiapo” which comes on the heels of his nearly-seven year old action series “FPJ’s Ang Probinsiyano”. EDV
