Jane De Leon-Janella Salvador ’ship in ‘Darna’ was ‘unexpected’ but welcome
Jane De Leon and Janella Salvador didn’t hesitate to say they are all for doing a “girls’ love” or GL series as a romantic pairing in the future.
“Of course,” Salvador said at a press conference for “Mars Ravelo’s Darna”, which is down to its final two weeks on air.
“Why not,” said De Leon, who previously took on queer roles, echoed at a press conference. “Sana ‘yung story rin kasi it is all about the craft. Artist din kami so it’s a challenge if ever [it happens].”
De Leon and Salvador’s chemistry is noted as one of the standouts in “Darna”, and they admitted that the DarLentina (Darna and Valentina) pairing is an “unexpected” surprise for them.
“Before the people started shipping us, we were already joking about it sa (on) set… It’s such an honor to have the LGBTQ community supporting you,” Salvador said. “I feel like they rarely get represented kaya (that’s why) they really clung to us.”

Salvador also admitted in an ambush interview with reporters that a possible GL series with De Leon is a step forward for LGBTQ representation in local media.
“I really feel happy to represent the LGBTQ community. Kaya nila kami kinapitan kasi hindi sila na-represent nang maayos in terms of women’s love,” she said. “I’m glad they did because I want to be the voice of people who aren’t represented and I love the community.”
“It would matter a lot to the community kaya open at willing ako. Kasi feeling ko, gusto nilang ma-represent nang maayos and just because it’s different. We should normalize it [in local media],” she added. EDV
