Playing Cecille De Jesus, an effeminate nurse in “Dick Talk” is not too much of a role-playing for Mikoy Morales who unabashedly admitted that like his stage character, he also has strong characteristics of a woman.

“He’s a very effeminate guy. Bunso siya sa magkakapatid na puro babae (He is the youngest among female siblings),” Morales initially told us during a one-on-one interview about his role Wednesday, January 15, after a pictorial for the play.

When we asked who was his peg for his character, Mikoy, without batting an eyelash said, “Me, myself.”

“I’ve been misunderstood or misinterpreted,” he declared. “In a way, hindi ako swak doon sa kung paano ‘yung maging tunay na lalaki ang isang lalaki. (I don’t fit in the mold of what a real man should be). Yes, I have those kind of experiences kahit ‘yung mga friends na nakapaligid sa akin (even with friends around me).”

Morales admits that even in the industry that his world revolves around, there are people who question his masculinity.

“Yes, there are doubts especially in the industry. ‘Oy, okay ka sa gay roles. Okay ‘yung katawan mo. Natural na natural ka sa gano’n. Pumipitik ‘yung kamay mo,’” he related. (Hey, you’re okay in gay roles. Your body is okay. You’re very natural at that. Your hands are flicking).

And there are some who would say that he might not have discovered yet that he is gay.

Hearing those, Morales admits he was offended. But now, he’s learned to take it in stride.

“At this point, no na. I used to be offended before when I was way younger. I would usually take it personally. But now, ang feeling ko it says more about them than me,” he said.

And to those who judge him because of his effeminate ways, Morales has this to say: “I think, nothing against them naman, pero kung idya-judge ko sila ngayon, I would say na nag-i-stick lang sila sa nakasanayan nilang konsepto.” (I think nothing against them but if I were to judge them now, I would say that they just stick to the concept they’re used to).
