Alice Dixson admitted that she would rather have carried her baby Aura if she had the choice, as she opened up about what it’s like to be a mom through surrogacy.
Dixson shared her experiences about being a mother in her 50s in a heart-to-heart talk with celebrity doctor Dra. Vicki Belo in a vlog uploaded on the latter’s YouTube channel on Thursday. Jan. 19.
The 53-year-old actress revealed that she always wanted to have a child and tried to conceive with her non-showbiz partner for 10 years, but there was no success. As a result, the couple decided to resort to surrogate motherhood through a recommendation from Belo herself.
“[Baby Aura] was two months premature, so I was not prepared at all… But as she grew, she turned out to be such a lovely child. She’s so healthy now, there’s no signs of her being premature at all,” she said.
Dixson admitted that being a mother in her 50s is harder than she initially expected, but enjoying every minute of it.
“It’s really hard pala. At my age, when you’re more mature and ready for a child, it’s like, mahaba ang pasensya mo (you’re very patient). You’re loving every minute of the experience, but there’s the part of running around, which is kind of hard,” she said. “She’s climbing on things and doing all things na naughty at this point… It’s a transition, but in general, I really love the experience.”
It’s been three years since Dixson decided to resort to surrogacy, and she admitted that looking for a “third party” was “very difficult.”
“I think finding a surrogate was very difficult. Accepting the fact that we wouldn’t try on me anymore and then we have to go to the third party. That was a big transition for me. And then the whole trying to do it here but it’s more advanced in the States so we spent a lot of time trying to do it here when it could’ve been done a lot faster in the US,” she added.
The actress might have portrayed a wide range of roles throughout her career, but being a mother to baby Aura is the “best role” she has ever done.
“Sa lahat ng roles na naportray ko, this is the one that I cherish the most,” she admitted. “Kung ako ang papipiliin (If I ever had the choice), I would rather have carried my daughter instead.”
Dixson first gained prominence after being crowned as Binibining Pilipinas International 1986. She went on to appear in several films and TV shows including “Okay Ka, Fairy Ko!”, “Dyesebel,” “Ngayon at Kailanman,” and “Legal Wives.”
The veteran actress welcomed baby Aura in April 2021, but has yet to show her daughter’s face in social media. She also has an elder daughter named Sassa, who was finally introduced to the public in May of last year. EDV
