The family of comedy king Dolphy decided to suspend regular briefings on his health last weekend because of his improved condition.
“We also want to give the press people time to rest,” said Dolphy’s son and family spokesperson, Eric Quizon.
The stress of the coverage has taken its toll on everyone—even among the reporters. It doesn’t help that “we are all in a hospital” and are constantly exposed to all sorts of pathogens, Eric explained.
Facing the media for the regular medical bulletin last Friday, Eric said that his father may be moved from the intensive care unit to a regular room sooner than expected.
He added: “He has become more lucid. He smiles at us now. He even stuck out his tongue. Belat is a favorite expression of his.”
Apart from asking for orange juice and water, the 83-year-old comic has also been mouthing the word “uwi.” “He wants to go home, but doctors still have to monitor his condition,” said Eric.
He said that the family considers these positive developments a “miracle”—a direct result of the good wishes of countless Filipinos who have kept vigil as well.
