Derek’s dad out of hospital

/ 07:43 PM July 02, 2012

Derek Ramsay is relieved that his dad is out of the hospital at long last.

“Thank God! He’s clear of cancer,” he says. “But he is still very weak and needs to go through more tests.”

I saw for myself how close Derek is to his father (they share the same name) during his TV5 contract signing.

Derek teased his dad by sobbing and imitating his tone: “Oh! You didn’t show up for our golf game last Sunday.”

FEATURED STORIES

His dad joked: “When the bills come, I tell them to give it to Derek but when his paycheck comes, I tell them to give it to me. It’s both addressed to Derek anyway.”

But the son, “Mr. Crush ng Bayan,” has no qualms admitting that his best friends are his dad and mom. That way, the heartthrob doesn’t lose the little boy in him which makes him even more charming.

Dolphy as National Artist

Since there is public clamor for Comedy King Dolphy to be named National Artist although there are still legal impediments, this text message sent to me by Anthony Castelo might be able to put the pieces together:

“Please check the YouTube video that we at Dakilang Lahi uploaded of NCCA/CCP officials caught lying and withholding documents on awards voting process.”

Quite intriguing, but of course it still remains to be proven. Oh well, even if there are issues regarding the long-overdue National Artist honor for Dolphy, the important thing is we are one as a nation in praying for his full recovery.

New lovebirds

Could it be true that Aljur Abrenica and Rachel Ann Go are the new lovebirds of tinseltown? If so, may their romance stand the torture test of intrigues, which is de rigeur for show biz couples.

Reformat

Heard that “Showbiz Central” is planning to reformat. If plans don’t miscarry, Regine Velasquez and Roderick Paulate might join the talk show.

‘Walang Hanggan’ fan

I hardly watch teleseryes but I’ve been drawn to ABS-CBN’s “Walang Hanggan.” Every episode is riveting and the cast jells perfectly. I’m in awe of Dawn Zulueta’s timeless beauty, which sparkles even more with the Miladay jewelry she wears in the series.

I’ve also become a fan of Coco Martin since I started watching “Walang Hanggan.” His tell-all interview in the July issue of Star Studio magazine is quite an interesting read. But I wonder why the writer did not touch on the Katherine Luna episode of his life. Neither was there any mention of his alleged lovechild with Katherine.

Too bad for Coco, he just can’t edit that out of his life like scenes in the series. Doesn’t the name of Julia Montes’ character, Katarina (his love interest in “Walang Hanggan”), somehow remind him of someone he would rather forget?

The Philippine adaptation of the worldwide phenomenal hit “X Factor” has been well-received.
