Tearjerking distractions

SANCHEZ. Is she joining “Glee”?

VLADIMIR Macaspac, televiewer: “Why can’t local TV singing tilts do away with the contestants’ ‘emotional back stories’? We have enough tearjerkers on TV.

“I was looking forward to the premiere telecast of ‘X-Factor Philippines,’ but I was dismayed when it highlighted portions that distracted from the talent show’s real purpose, like when a mother became hysterical backstage while her son was performing, or when celebrity-judge Charice got emotional, because a contestant’s song reminded her of her late father—‘di ko na tuloy maalala kung magaling talaga o hindi ang contestant!”

Ellen Rillo, student: Actress-singer Jennylyn Mercado is evolving into a fine host on ‘Showbiz Central.’ She registers well onscreen.”

Yuki Romeo Sacurom, fashion designer: “The film event to look forward to is next month’s Cinemalaya festival, which I find more exciting than the predictable Metro Manila Film Festival.”

Speculative matters

Lester Katada, student: “Is Jessica Sanchez performing in a solo concert here in the Philippines or not? The latest word is that she isn’t. It would help if local media refrain from writing about uncertain or speculative matters.

“Another exciting development in Jessica’s singing career is her alleged inclusion in the fourth season of ‘Glee.’ Here’s hoping that, if it pushes through, it won’t end up the way Charice’s experience in the hit show turned out—there was too much fanfare about her limited exposure.”

Amparo Carreon, retired teacher: “One radio station that remains close to my heart is dwWW on the AM band. It caters to the ‘young once’—it plays my favorite songs from as far back as the 1950s! And Larry Damian shares informative snippets of music trivia with listeners.”
