Blackpink, BTS fans react to idols’ appearances on PH Bar exams

MANILA, Philippines — Questions bearing similar names to members of South Korean idol groups Blackpink and BTS were on the 2022 Bar Examinations, prompting netizens to take to social media to express their surprise.

The bar exams had portions where applicants were given scenarios to which they must answer with essay-type responses. The Supreme Court (SC) published the official exam on Sunday.

A company named BTS appeared in the commercial law portion of the exam, with fans believing that this was named after the famous boy band.

“Yoongi, a director of BTS Corp. PH, bought substantial shares of its major supplier, Hybe, Inc. When Hybe, Inc.’s contracts were taken up by the BTS Corp. PH Board, Yoongi not only voted for their approval but influenced other directors to do so. Later, the Hybe, Inc. contracts turned out to be disadvantageous to BTS Corp. PH and caused it substantial losses,” the exam stated.

Incidentally, Min Yoongi, otherwise known by his stage name Suga, is a member of BTS.

Meanwhile, a question alluding to Jennie and Lisa of Blackpink and their label YG appeared in the criminal law portion of the bar exams.

“Jenny obtained a fire insurance from YG Insurance Co. (YG). In payment of the policy, she issued a postdated check payable to cash in the amount of Php 15,000.00 which was handed to Lisa, YG’s sales agent. Lisa did not remit the check to YG. Instead, Lisa deposited it in her husband’s bank account, but the check was dishonored for having been drawn from a closed account,” the exam question read.

This prompted netizens to believe that the questions were hinting at their idols.

“There’s a question about BTS in the Bar Exam. The Supreme Court is an Army confirmed JK ½”, a netizen tweeted, as BTS fans call themselves Army.
