MANILA, Philippines – Rodolfo Vera “Dolphy” Quizon’s vital signs have continued to improve but he has developed an infection due to his weakened immune system.
Dr. Eric Nubla Jr., head of director-patient relations of the Makati Medical Center, said in a press briefing Thursday that Dolphy has an infection but doctors did not specify what it was.
“He has developed an infection, principally because his immune system is still weak,” Nubla said in their latest medical bulletin. He added that they are regulating the visitors so as to control any further infections Dolphy might develop.
“Infection is very very important to control,” Nubla said. Dolphy was said to be immunocompromised making him vulnerable to infections such as upper respiratory tract infection like a simply cold, he said.
Dolphy did not have dialysis and blood transfusion today, he said. His medications are slowly being withdrawn while he has also been cleared of pneumonia, Nubla said.
Dolphy’s kidneys were only working at 10 percent, which meant that he would need more dialysis, Nubla said.
“Ten percent is significant enough (compared to previous levels) but it’s still far from ideal,” he said.
When asked if they could be 100 percent functional again, Nubla said that he cannot know for sure but it was a possibility.
