Actor Martin Del Rosario has issued a public apology on his Instagram story following backlash from social media users after posting photos dressed up as notorious serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer.

Dahmer is an American serial killer who took the lives of multiple men and boys by luring his victims with a promise of money. His story gained popularity due to a new hit series on Netflix detailing his life leading up to his crimes.

The actor’s now deleted post gained unwanted attention when members of the public Facebook group “Main Pop Girls Stanposting” called the actor out for glamorizing a real life serial killer.

Del Rosario received more flak when social media users on different platforms expressed their disapproval of his costume.

“I did not intend to create buzz for my personal gain nor exude that attitude of indifference towards the victims of the character I wore,” Del Rosario wrote in his apology posted on Tuesday, Nov. 1.

The popularity of the series, coupled with the controversy surrounding Dahmer’s personality, appeared to have emboldened numerous true crime enthusiasts to dress up like him for Halloween. This sensation, however, caught the attention of some social media users who questioned the propriety of dressing up like a real-life serial killer.

While dressing up as fictional killers like Hannibal Lecter and Patrick Bateman on Halloween has become normalized, several people have spoken out against using Dahmer as inspiration, including the families of his victims. The sister of Errol Lindsey told the Insider that “it felt like reliving it all over again.” EDV
