Vickie Rushton has revealed that she is officially a Philippine Navy reservist as she showed moments from her training and graduation.
The Mutya ng Pilipinas International 2011 titleholder and former “Pinoy Big Brother” housemate described becoming a reservist as “the highest and most meaningful achievement” she has received, as seen on her Instagram page last Monday, Oct. 31.
“HM2 Vickie Marie Milagrosa S Rushton, PN(Res). I know, for sure, that it is always easier said than done but what is worth doing to have a meaningful and purposeful life is inevitably challenging,” Rushton said. “This is [way] out of my comfort zone. I have discovered many things about myself and one of which is my strength.”
“This is by far the highest and most meaningful achievement I received in my life. Honestly, I just wanted to work with different organizations where I can help and serve but who would have thought that I will be a full-fledged Philippine Navy Reservist?” she added.
Rushton expressed gratefulness for having the strength to continue her training and for being surrounded by the “right people” throughout the course, including her batchmates and the people behind her training. She also showed appreciation of her husband, actor Jason Abalos.
“To my husband, [Jason Abalos], thank you for allowing me to join. It’s nice to share this journey with you,” she told him. “Kahit magkaiba tayo ng class, happy ako na sabay tayo nag-graduate. Thank you for supporting me and for encouraging me. Nakaya ko ang lahat ng ‘to dahil sa tiwala mo na kaya ko din gawin ‘to.”
(Though we belong to different classes, I am happy that we got to graduate together. Thank you for supporting me and for encouraging me. I got through all of this because you trusted I could do it.)

Rushton, who had been competing in pageants since 2009, concluded her pageant journey in 2021 after joining Binibining Pilipinas three times. She and Abalos then got married in Batangas last September. /ra
