Angel Aquino could not seem to contain her joy after her daughter Thea graduated from college despite being diagnosed with hydrocephalus when she was born.
The actress gave a glimpse of the commencement ceremony while recounting her daughter’s medical journey, through Aquino’s Instagram page on Sunday, Oct. 30.
“I’m sorry if all those years, I did not fully trust that i’ll ever see this day,” Aquino addressed Thea.
“Your doctors said to be ready for the worst: speech, movement, comprehension are all challenged and may not even come; that you might stay in bed your whole life,” Aquino stated. “Yet we kept on going, with no rush and no pressure each day, each year, one school, one milestone at a time.”
Aquino then described Thea as “unlimited, undaunted and unafraid,” which the actress considers as a gift from God. Aquino also spoke about how her daughters, Thea and her actress sister Iana Bernardez, are “way better people” than her.
“Look where you took me today. We’ve gone miles from that bed, haven’t we?” she said. “Your indomitable spirit powered through, Thea.”
Back in 2016, the actress opened up about her daughter’s condition in an interview on the morning talk show “Magandang Buhay.” Aquino disclosed that Thea underwent surgical operation when she was just three weeks old, but her condition recurred in 2005.
Thea is Aquino’s daughter with her former husband Ian Bernardez. Aquino and Ian wed in 1995, then their marriage got annulled in 2004. /ra
