Pia Wurtzbach faces final stretch of training for New York City marathon
Pia Wurtzbach is determined to finish the 42-kilometer New York City Marathon as she moves on to the final stretch of training for the race.
The Miss Universe 2015 titleholder opened up on the setbacks she experienced while training for the marathon, via her Instagram page last Sunday, Oct. 9.
“Finished running 32km last weekend — my longest run so far, and now we’re on the final stretch of training!” she said. “I faced a lot of setbacks the past few months… ‘di ko lang shinare kasi kinabahan ako (I did not share them because I was nervous).”
Wurtzbach admitted that she was worried over not being able to finish the marathon, as she got sick twice while training and previously contracted COVID-19.
“I missed training days and some of those essential long runs so I was really worried. My performance suffered,” she told fans. “I couldn’t get the mileage in, and I was slower than before. Mabagal na nga ako bumagal pa lalo (I was already slow, and I got even slower).”

Despite these struggles, Wurtzbach received guidance from her coach and managed to finish the 32-kilometer run. This boosted her confidence on finishing all 42 kilometers of the New York City marathon. For now, her goal is to finish the marathon, no matter how slow or fast it would take her.
“I realized that this isn’t a pageant. I’m not competing against anyone but myself,” she said.
