MANILA, Philippines – There is still hope for comedy king Rodolfo “Dolphy” Vera Quizon, who is suffering  from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), an official the Philippine Medical Association said  in an interview over Radyo Inquirer 990AM on  Monday.

Doctor Leo Olarte said Dolphy’s condition was serious but “there is always hope through prayers.”

Olarte explained that a patient suffering from COPD likely caught the illness through its primary cause: smoking.

But persons exposed to second-hand smoke and pollution, he said, could also get COPD.

He said COPD could be treated at its early stages but added, “Pero pag matagal na,  hindi na gumagaling. There is no cure for COPD. Symptomatic treatment na lang ito at hindi na gagaling.”

Olarte then urged the public to refrain from smoking, and instead eat balanced diet, exercise regularly and to be honest in having vehicles checked for smoke emission.
