Amy Perez managed to find calm amid chaos as she delivered a spiel for a morning program while fire alarms blared at ABS-CBN earlier today, Sept. 6.

The TV and radio host was presenting a news item for the radio program “Sakto” on Teleradyo when fire alarms went off at the ABS-CBN studio, as seen on Teleradyo’s Facebook page. Perez did not appear to understand what was happening at first, as she joked it might be time for “recess.”

“Ano ba ‘yung alarm na naririnig natin? Mamaya. Recess na?” Perez said to off-camera staff. (What is that alarm we are hearing? Later. Is it time for recess?)

Perez continued calmly reading the news item, but as the alarms started getting louder, she wrapped up the spiel and told viewers that the program would go on a break.

Broadcaster Jeff Canoy, an anchor for “Sakto,” apologized to fans and gave an explanation for the abrupt end of the morning program’s episode via his Instagram page.

“Sorry guys, we had to cut our morning news show earlier. Had to evacuate after smoke alarms went off at the ABS-CBN main building,” he said. “Thanks for the kind messages. We’re all okay. And heading back to work.”

“Here’s Tyang @amypcastillo trying to get through a news item before we had to evacuate. Fighting!” Canoy added.

The electrical fire that hit the network’s compound in Quezon City caused ABS-CBN’s ANC and Teleradyo to pause broadcasting operations. The fire reached the first alarm and was declared out at 8:39 a.m.

The Bureau of Fire Protection has yet to give details about the incident as of 8:53 a.m. today.  /ra
