Dolphy contracts pneumonia, says son

Dolphy

MANILA, Philippines – Actor-comedian Dolphy has contracted pneumonia again based on the latest results of his x-ray, his son Eric Quizon said.

This was the 11th time in 11 months that Dolphy had pneumonia, said Quizon, who was appointed spokesman by the family. “Hopefully ma-survive nya again [he survives it again],” he added.

Dolphy’s dialysis was also stopped at 10 a.m. as his heart pressure went up and his blood pressure went down. His heart rate has been regulated as his condition was being monitored to determine whether he should continue with his dialysis, Quizon told reporters in a briefing at the Makati Medical Center where Dolphy has been confined since last week.

He said it has been a “rollercoaster ride not only for his dad but also for his family”.

“Kung ano pinagdadaanan ng daddy ko, yun din pinagdadaanan naming [Whatever my daddy is going through, we’re going through],” he said.

Dolphy’s creatinine level was still down at 1.58, below the normal levels ranging from .7 and 1.2, he said.

Quizon said that while his father’s hemoglobin count went up, his platelet count went down to 44,000 from Thursday’s 77,000.

Quizon said this meant that his father was prone to hemorrhaging, adding that the internal bleeding could be in his stomach.

He said his father may be tired, which made his heart rate irregular.

Quizon said, however, that his father was responsive Friday afternoon, although they did not know what he was trying to say.

“With the antibiotics mas lalong [he was more] groggy,” he said.

Quizon said his father’s disease, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), has a “domino effect”, which was the “downside of his illness.”

He said COPD has made him prone to virus.

Quizon said the dialysis helped to remove excess fluids in his dad’s lungs although he managed to complete only one day of the three-day treatment.
