MANILA, Philippines—The Court of Appeals granted the request of TV5 as it issued a temporary restraining order against the decision of the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board’s decision suspending “T3,” the news and public affairs program of the Tulfo brothers on TV5.
In a 13-page resolution, the appeals court 6th division through Associate Justice Rosmari D. Carandang said the TRO shall remain until the court resolves the petition filed by TV5 that sought the nullification of the suspension order issued by the MTRCB.
“We are of the view that the immediate and continuous execution of the penalties imposed by the MTRCB’s decision bears significant consequence on the freedom of the press and of expression, resulting to irreparable injury to petitioner and the public,” the appeals court said.
T3, the show of brothers Ben, Erwin and Raffy Tulfo was suspended after it aired its threat last month to show-biz couple Raymart Santiago and Claudine Barretto. The couple was involved in the airport mauling incident of their elder brother Mon.
TV5 added that implementation of the 3 months suspension order would prejudice employees of the show.
For the TRO to take effect, the appeals court required TV5 to pay a bond of P100,000.
