When my mom (Inday Badiday) was still around, Ate Guy and she were super close. They rose to fame together. The Superstar saw me grow up, so every time we bump into each other at show biz parties, we would reminisce about the good old days.
At the height of the popularity of the Guy-Pip (Tirso Cruz III) love team, Nora would pop up in our house at odd hours to seek Mom’s advice about heart matters. Ma was even a “ninang” (godmother) to Guy & Pip’s “doll daughter,” Maria Leonora Teresa. That’s how fandom was back in the day.
Ma took Ate Guy’s deepest secrets to her grave. One of my fave La Aunor stories that Ma shared with me happened during their shoot of “Blue Hawaii.” During a break time, Ma asked Nora to accompany her to watch the shoot of “Hawaii 5-0” (H50) the hit TV show back then.
Both of them were in total fangirl mode, so they lost track of time. When they got back to the set of their movie, Kuya Germs (German Moreno, who was their director) was furious. He reprimanded them like they were kids who played hooky. But Ma and Ate Guy were too giddy after watching the shoot of H5O, so they just ignored Kuya Germs’ “sermon.”
Ate Guy’s career would not have been as colorful without her rivalry with Vilma Santos. So I interviewed Ate Vi about La Aunor’s new “honor.” Now that Ate Guy is a certified National Artist, Ate Vi is definitely next in line.
Here’s my chat with Ate Vi:
What’s your message to Ate Guy on her being named National Artist?
Isang pagpupugay ang dapat nating ibigay sa ating bagong set of National Artists. Bawat isa sa kanila ay may angking galing at talino na lubos na kahanga-hanga. I sincerely congratulate all of them. Lahat sila magaling.
Congratulations, Mareng Guy! Keep up the good work.
If you and Ate Guy would do a movie, what roles do you want both of you to portray?
Long lost friends who are reunited. I want it to be about women empowerment.
What’s your fave movie of Ate Guy?
Our movies, of course. “T-bird at Ako” and “Ikaw ay Akin.”
Will Cesar Montano play Ferdinand Marcos?
The buzz du jour about my BFF Buboy (Cesar Montano) is that he will be portraying Ferdinand Marcos (FM) in Darryl Yap’s movie, “Maid in Malacañang.” So I asked BFF about it. His reply (as of June 16), “In my case, hindi pa 100 percent sure, BFF. This week pa lang magkakaalaman.”
Let’s wait and see if he will turn FM into … Ferdinand Montano.
How ‘Sparkada’ members want to bond with their dads
Since it’s Father’s Day tomorrow, I rounded up some of GMA 7’s bright new stars, collectively known as “Sparkada.” I asked them, “What’s something you’ve always wanted to experience with your Dad?” Here goes:
Larkin Castor: To go on a go-kart race with him. I also want us to drive without a speed limit. Kidding aside, my dad and I are good drivers.
Caitlyn Stave: My hobby is horseback riding. My dad has been getting into it as well, so I hope when he’s ready, we can have a trail ride.
Michael Sager: Since my dad taught me how to sing, I dream of the day when we would do a duet on TV.
Saviour Ramos: To go sky diving and diving with sharks.
Lauren King: My dad passed away already, but I still want him to be my first dance on my debut. I know it’s impossible, so I will just dance with him in my imagination.
