Native American proverbs

July 4 is considered by Americans as their Independence Day. When the white man discovered America, Indians were running it and, very well, too. Some Native American proverbs:

Plants are our brothers and sisters. They talk to us and, if we listen, we can hear them.

When we show respect for other living beings, they respond to us with respect.

Children

Your children are not your own; they’re just lent to you by the Creator.

When a man moves away from nature, his heart hardens.

A good chief gives; he does not take.

To touch the earth is to have harmony with nature.

Sharing and giving are the ways of God.

Regard Heaven as your Father, Earth as your Mother, and all the rest as your brothers and sisters.

Wisdom comes only when you stop looking for it and start living the life the Creator intended for you.

Take only what you need, and leave the land as you found it!
