Filipino filmmaker picked for Berlinale Residency
Filipino filmmaker Raya Martin was chosen by an international jury to participate in the first edition of the Berlinale Residency in September. Martin is joining five other filmmakers from Chile, Ireland, Israel, Iran and the Netherlands.
The four-month educational program will allow the filmmakers to work on their scripts and develop production and distribution strategies, with the help of renowned mentors.
Martin won the slot with his project, “Nueva España,” which also earned him a development grant in Mexico earlier. Martin’s producer, Arleen Cuevas, will likewise attend the director-producer workshop in Berlin. Martin wrote the script of “Nueva España” with novelist Norman Wilwayco. Bayani San Diego Jr.
