Lessons from water
THE rainy season is here, and we see water everywhere. We can learn some lessons from water. Some Filipino proverbs (in English translation):
Water breaks heated stone. (A person who is calm and peaceful can defeat an angry man.)
Don’t say that the water’s deep until you’ve plunged into its depths. (Do not succumb to superficiality; more insights can be learned from people who act on the truth.)
He is in the water, yet he thirsts. (One can be immersed in material opulence, and still be spiritually famished.)
Water from small streams flows to the vast ocean. (We are from the Supreme Being, with whom we’re innately connected.)
Dirty water cannot cleanse. (Corrupt leaders cannot help a nation.)

Water does not rise above its source. (A student cannot be greater than his teacher; no one can be greater than the Supreme Source.)
If you want clean water, don’t make the spring murky. (Don’t spoil the environment.)
Little drops of water can be collected and used. (Small efforts, if pooled together, can make a difference.)
A person who stays near a body of water will experience its cooling effect. (Self-realized souls benefit others with their holy presence.)
Don’t strike the water if you don’t want it splashed on you. (There are reactions to violent actions.)
