Michael Bublé on getting ‘addicted’ to TikTok

Michael Bublé’s first TikTok video

When his wife suggested that he put up his own TikTok account around September last year, Michael Bublé’s immediate reaction was of disapproval. “I’m not going to do TikTok,” he told the singer-actress and mother of his three kids, Luisana Lopilato.

But six months, 1.6 million followers and 14.3 million likes later, the star crooner admitted that he has gotten “a little addicted” to the social media app. “My wife was actually the one who said, ‘You should do TikTok.’ I said, I’m not going to. But then I started doing it somehow, and I was like, ‘This is way too much fun!’” he said in a virtual conference for his upcoming album “Higher.”

The Canadian singer-songwriter’s first TikTok video was posted last Sept. 9—his 46th birthday—and shows him in front of two cupcakes with candles shaped like the numbers 4 and 6, respectively. He lip syncs to a track of a toddler giggling and saying, “No,” as he pushes away the cupcake with the number 4. The said video now has 31.5 million views.

And he’s clearly enjoying tinkering with the app, because Michael continues to post random stuff like silly skits, memes and a host of other trends and challenges.

“It’s so cool. I love TikTok because it’s just so much fun to laugh at yourself. We need some lightness … And I can’t stop looking at it,” said Michael, who’s currently in a TikTok competition with his wife.

“My wife and I are in a battle to see who can get more followers. And I think she’s going to kick my butt,” he said of Luisana, who now has 1.5 million followers and counting.

What Michael loves most about being on TikTok is the interaction with his fans. “Anything that allows me to connect with beautiful souls all over the world interests me,” he pointed out.
