MANILA, Philippines — Sharon Cuneta on Thursday expressed dismay over senatorial candidate Salvador Panelo’s belting out of her song at a campaign event in Quezon City, calling it “embarrassing” not just for her but to songwriter Willy Cruz.

The Mega Star conveyed her disappointment through her Twitter account, as she replied to a tweet of her daughter Kakie Pangilinan, showing a CNN Philippines video of Panelo singing “Sana’y Wala Nang Wakas” during vice presidential candidate Sara Duterte Carpio’s campaign activity in Quezon City.

“Di dapat sinisira ang isang classic. Basta TAYO ANG AT MAY ORIG! Oh please WE HAVE NOT ALLOWED YOU TO USE OUR SONG! Please stop. Nakakaawa naman ang kanta namin at nakakahiya,” she added.

(A classic should not be ruined. Jusk know that we are and we have the original! Oh please, WE HAVE NOT ALLOWED YOU TO USE OUR SONG! Please stop. I feel bad for our song, and it’s embarrassing.)

Cuneta also posted her sentiments on her Instagram account, adding that she will only allow the song to be used in the campaigns of her husband, vice presidential candidate Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan, and his running mate, Vice President Leni Robredo, who is running for president in the May 9 polls.

“Don’t mess with a classic. I allow its use only for Leni-Kiko! LOL. Utang na loob baka bumangon si Willy nakakahiya naman sa amin! Kinilabutan ako (please stop Willy might rise from his grave. It is embarrassing to us! I had goosebumps.) In a bad way,” she said in the post’s caption.

In a follow-up tweet, Cuneta also warned other camps – without naming anybody – not to use any more of her songs, even daring them to use Ely Buendia’s songs “nang magkagera na” (so that war would break loose.)

Both Buendia and Cuneta had been actively campaigning for Robredo and Pangilinan.
