With Sanya Lopez and Rocco Nacino set to reunite on screen, the former love tandem—who were once romantically linked—maintained that there’s no awkwardness between them.
“I’m very excited to work with Rocco, because it has been a while since we did a project,” Sanya, who was paired with Rocco in “Haplos” (2017) and the “Encantadia” reboot (2016), said in a recent virtual conference for the new romantic comedy series “First Lady” on GMA 7.
Rocco’s addition to the cast, Sanya said, is a welcome treat for the longtime fans of their “RocSan” team up. “We saw each other during the network’s New Year’s countdown special, but we still didn’t know then that we would be working together,” Sanya said. “I’m grateful he accepted he role … Our fans are looking forward to this and excited for what the show has in store.”
“Mabubuhay ang RocSan fans,” added Rocco, who will play Mayor Moises Valentine, a young rising political figure who will develop a “special friendship” with Melody (Sanya), despite being in competing parties.
Supportive wife
Rocco, who’s now married to volleyball player Melissa Gohing, said his wife is supportive of his television reunion with Sanya. “I wouldn’t be here in the first place if she weren’t supportive. She knows that work is work. She knows Sanya and has met her a few times already,” Rocco said. “She was actually excited about me being here.”
The 34-year-old actor said he’s “proud” to have been one of Sanya’s first leading men. “It would be nice to see how much she has grown as an actress. I’m excited to see how she will attack her character,” he said.
“I had just finished a heavy drama (“To Have and to Hold”), so I’m still feeling my way in here. But I’m very interested in what my character will bring to the show,” Rocco added.
