Online tilt for shorts

I knew Diego Buenaflor and Vince Nakpil-Roxas as kids. They have come up with the 180 Microcinema Film Festival, an online competition for short films that dares its participants to tell a compelling story in just three minutes.

Earlier this year, in January, more than 200 entries from 30 countries were submitted to the festival, but only 42 were accepted to compete for awards (check out the winning entries at 180cinema.net): Jose Chavez’s “Munting Alay (A Small Offering)” was the Narrative Cycle Audience Choice winner, while the Jury’s Choice was Marko Slavnic and Andrew McDonald’s “Table 7.” Each of the winners received $15,000 and a development deal.

Ceremony

Judges included Academy Award-winning producer Stefanie Walmsley, Hollywood producer Isabel Henderson and Australian director-screenwriter Peter R. Kirk. The awarding ceremony was held last April 21 at Rockwell. For more information, call 502-9637 or 0917 576-6606 (Buenaflor).
