“Snow White and The Huntsman” actually leaves the realm of fairytale and transcends into the world of fantasy where film giants “Lord of the Rings” and “Avatar” reside.
Charlize Theron owns the entire movie with her excellent portrayal of vain, jealous, and power-hungry Queen Ravena, Snow White’s stepmother, who usurps the throne from her husband, the king.
Kristen Stewart and Chris Hemsworth’s lackluster performance of Snow White and The Huntsman, respectively, paled in comparison to Theron’s sinister Queen. Both Stewart and Hemsworth appear to still be working in the mould of their previous roles in “Twilight” and “Thor.”
It’s pretty much like Bella and Thor were teleported to the world of Middle Earth and were caught up in new adventures together.
The complete redesign of the fairytale world of Snow White was a stroke of genius – a perfect harmony of the earth-version flora and fauna from “Avatar” and “Lord of the Rings.” The fantasy world of Dark forests with halucinogenic plants and lush green meadows with forest nymphs and nature spirits is a sight to behold.
Queen Ravena’s evilness is given more fangs with the excellent dark magic she is able to perform with the help of computer imagery. Watch her transform from a witch to a flock of ravens and then back again to perfect form.
Overall, the entire movie successfully creates a new and compelling retelling of the story of Snow White in a mature fantasy setting.
