“Voltes V: Legacy,” GMA 7’s live action adaptation of the 1970s hit anime “Voltes V,” has received a thumbs up from the owner of the original series’ franchise, Toei Company.

“Voltes V: Legacy” director Mark Reyes was ecstatic over receiving kind words from the series’ mother company as he showed a letter from Toei on his Instagram page yesterday, Dec. 31.

“Now I can share this. One of the best Christmas gifts I received was this kind letter of support from no less than ‘Voltes V’s’ home base in Japan, Toei Company,” he said.

Toei expressed excitement over the production of the live adaptation in the Philippines as it commended the show’s producers for their work amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Production may be tough under this [COVID-19] situation, but this time we wanted to inform you that we were so excited to see the promo-reel of the show. We could feel your respect to the original series [and] we also thank you for your effort, enthusiasm and hard work under this [COVID-19] situation,” Toei stated. “Please take care of yourselves and we shall continue to look forward to the completion of the show.”

“Voltes V: Legacy” recently released a featurette revealing the cast in their final costumes and the action scenes between Voltes V and the Boazanian army. It also gave a glimpse of the interiors of the Boazanian Skull Ship and Camp Big Falcon, first teased by Reyes last May.

The series will star actors Miguel Tanfelix, Ysabel Ortega, Radson Flores, Matt Lozano and Raphael Landicho. They will respectively be playing the characters Steve Armstrong, Jamie Robinson, Mark Gordon, Big Bert Armstrong and Little Jon Armstrong. A premiere date for the show is yet to be announced.

The original Japanese anime “Voltes V,” upon which “Voltes V: Legacy” is based, follows the story of young heroes saving Earth from enemies from far away planets. It was produced by Toei Company’s Toei Animation and Nippon Sunrise. The series was later shown on Philippine TV and earned a massive following. JB
