How do you plan to celebrate the Christmas season to make it more meaningful despite the pandemic?

For many families, putting up a Christmas tree is one of the most awaited holiday activities. Everyone gets excited decorating it while enjoying the company of one another.
At first we were planning on having a big tree. I was like, “Let’s go and buy one!” But then I realized that only a few people visit me and my wife (volleyball player Melissa Gohing) here at home, so we just got a small tree with simple lights.
We don’t accept a lot of visitors because we’re being extra careful. But the plan is to have an intimate lunch and dinner with our families here. And since I’m a nurse, I will do the swab tests myself—free of charge!

I feel like this Christmas is all about being more thankful for all the blessings and being grateful to be alive amid the pandemic. Life is short. People are getting sick. If you can be really thankful and grateful for everything you have, then it’s going to be the best Christmas ever. I’m just happy to be healthy this Christmas.

My dad passed away last Nov. 1. So this is the first Christmas I’m going to spend without him. Most likely, we will spend it here (in Manila) and not in Ilocos, because my husband (Ilocos Sur Rep. Deogracias Savellano) is also here. And I would like to stay, because I would like to visit my father at the columbary. It’s going to be a different Christmas. Kung kelan na puwede na mag-hug and everything saka pa nawala si dad. But I plan to do the same things. I will still spend it with my family, hold a Christmas party for our staff and get-togethers with our friends.
