“The Matrix Resurrections” has released a new official trailer, giving fans a first look at Jada Pinkett Smith’s transformation as a much older Niobe.
The trailer features action-packed scenes with Keanu Reeves’ Neo, confirming that the film series’ protagonist still has a handle for kung fu, as seen on Warner Bros. Pictures’ YouTube channel yesterday, Dec. 7.
Neo also seems to have no recollection of the events in the past three films, as he was seen talking to the human rebel Niobe about the Matrix.
“It’s so easy to forget how much noise the Matrix pumps into your head. Something else makes the same kind of noise: war,” she tells him.
“The Matrix Resurrections” is the fourth film in the sci-fi film series, which started with the 1999 film “The Matrix.” Aside from Reeves and Smith, it also stars Jonathan Groff, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Jessica Henwick and Carrie-Anne Moss.
Smith was not part of the original movie, though she appeared in the sequel films “The Matrix Reloaded” and “The Matrix Revolutions.”
“The Matrix Resurrections” is set for release in theaters and HBO Max on Dec. 22. It is written by David Mitchell, Aleksandar Hemon and Lana Wachowski, who helmed every previous movie in the franchise alongside her sister Lilly. Wachowski also serves as the film’s director. /ra
