Now that the dust has settled, Cinemalaya Foundation chair Tonyboy Cojuangco weighs in on the controversial disqualification of Emerson Reyes’ “MNL 143”: “We need to keep a balance between the foundation’s desire to catch potential technical and artistic flaws and the new filmmaker’s passion to make bold decisions. Keeping this delicate balance has been the strength of Cinemalaya as it continues to produce films that are daring in their storytelling yet cognizant of industry standards.”
