Luis Manzano recounted the moment his father, actor Edu Manzano, told him that he is in a relationship with actress Cherry Pie Picache. Luis also admitted that his father’s revelation caught him off guard.
The actor-TV host talked about how he found out that Edu is dating Picache, in his interview with screenwriter G3 San Diego for her YouTube channel yesterday, Nov. 29. Luis, along with his wife actress Jessy Mendiola, was asked if he was surprised when Edu confirmed his relationship with Picache.
“Sobrang we were (We were really) caught off guard. No one saw it coming. I don’t even think Dad and Tita Pie saw it coming,” Luis joked. Mendiola agreed, adding that she was “really shocked” over Edu’s confirmation.
Luis then went on to narrate that one of his friends sent him a picture of the couple on a date, which led to Edu telling his son about his relationship with Picache.
“I think a friend of mine took a picture of them and he (friend) sent me a picture. He was with Dad and Tita Pie. Date night yata sila (They may be on a date night),” he recounted. “So I sent the picture back to Daddy. I said, ‘Daddy, happy boy ka (you’re a happy boy).’ Sabi niya, ‘Yes anak (son), happy.'”
Luis also noted that Edu looked happy with Picache while he talked about the relationship advice that he received from his father.
“It would boil down to the same thing, kung paano niya nirerespeto ang kanyang kasama. That’s one thing na nakikita ko kay Daddy,” he said. “Nakikita ko rin naman how happy he is with Tita Pie.”
(It would boil down to the same thing, how he respects his partner. That’s one thing that I see in Daddy. I can also see how happy he is with Tita Pie.)
Edu confirmed his relationship with Picache in a text conversation with broadcaster Cheryl Cosim last Nov. 19.
The actor was previously married to actresses Vilma Santos and Maricel Soriano. Luis is his only son with Santos. Meanwhile, Picache separated from her former partner Gary Tria in 2006. They have a son together, Nio.
Edu and Picache both star in the ABS-CBN TV series “Marry Me, Marry You,” alongside Janine Gutierrez, Paulo Avelino and Jake Ejercito among others. /ra
