Sanya Lopez describes her dream guy

Because she can be “manhid” or oblivious to romantic cues from time to time, Sanya Lopez would prefer her admirers or potential suitors to be candid about their intentions instead of just dropping hints.

“I can’t really tell if a guy likes me. Minsan, may pagka-manhid din ako and I don’t realize that he’s already trying to court me,” she told the Inquirer in a virtual conference for “Oh My Oppa!,” the latest episode of the drama-fantasy anthology “Daig Kayo ng Lola Ko” on GMA 7. “It’s hard to assume a person’s feelings about you, because it might turn out that he has none!”

Tropa mode

She’s also the type, she added, who jumps straight to “tropa” mode with guys she feels comfortable with. “Once I get close with a guy, tropa agad treatment ko. Sometimes, the person acts sweet toward me and I wouldn’t realize it until other people start to point it out. And I would be like, ‘That’s just how we are!’” she related.

“Maybe just let me know? Pwede ba ‘yun?” the 25-year-old actress said, laughing. “It’s better to be sure.”

As for her type, Sanya favors men with a rugged, action star-like look. But sometimes, she said, preferences don’t really matter if you find someone you’re happy with.

“We usually have an idea of what we want… But there will come a guy who will make you wonder, ‘Why him? He doesn’t really have the qualities I had in my mind. But when you fall in love, when you’re happy with the person, when he eases your sadness, nawawala ka sa sarili mo,” she said. “And I’m one of them!”

Doors remain open

After all, “perfect” is what you make of it. “Sometimes, love changes everything; it makes you feel that he’s perfect. And if you accept him for who he is, then you will be happy,” she said. But at the very least, Sanya said she wants someone who will understand what being an actor entails. “I want someone who’s kind and will understand the nature of my work. These days it’s tough to find someone who gets it. I want someone who will love me no matter what,” she said.

Sanya has never been in a serious romantic relationship. But she’s open to whatever the future brings. “We don’t know what will happen and if someone will come along. But I’m open to the possibility,” she said. “I’m not closing my doors.” INQ
