TV5’S top-rating variety-game show “Wil Time Bigtime” will lead the launch of the network’s two international channels—Kapatid TV5 and Aksyon TV International—in North America this week, Pilipinas Global Network Limited (PGNL) announced recently.
PGNL, the Kapatid network’s international arm, also confirmed that big-name stars like Nora Aunor, Ruffa Gutierrez, Aga Muhlach and Derek Ramsay will be joining “Wil Time Bigtime” host Willie Revillame at the launch.
There will be two separate launch events in California—one at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles on Saturday, May 26, and at the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium in San Francisco on June 2. Both shows start at 6 p.m.
“Wil Time Bigtime” program unit head Jay Montelibano said his group has been reviewing California’s rules and regulations on mounting a game show to make sure that the show complies. “TV5 is a network run by lawyers. Our bosses are very thorough. I was given a five-page list of guidelines,” he told the Inquirer on Monday.
Montelibano explained that, unlike the usual variety show, which merely features a series of production numbers, “Wil Time Bigtime” has segments that encourage the audience to participate and have a chance to bring home cash prizes.
Citing California guidelines, Montelibano said contestants should be 18 years old and above. “He or she should already have a taxpayer’s identification number or TIN and should be consistent in paying taxes,” he added. “Also, the show is not allowed to hand out a cash prize of more than $600.”
TV5 bosses were also making sure that their artists, including the show’s cohosts, Mariel Rodriguez and Camille Villar, secure the right US visa before the big launch.
“We’re really working hard for this,” Montelibano pointed out. “Content-wise, viewers will get to see production numbers not normally seen on the show.”
“Talentadong Pinoy” season 3 grand winner Astroboy will also perform to add color to the event. Even TV5’s news and public affairs personalities Luchi Cruz-Valdez and Erwin Tulfo are joining as guests.
Tickets are being sold for $38, $48, $58, $78, $98 and $113 for the LA show and $49, $59, $69, $79, $99 and $114 for the San Francisco show. Get them at ticketmaster.com.
