Jennylyn Mercado and Dennis Trillo were treated to a surprise after the actress found out she is pregnant amid their plans to have a child through surrogacy.
The couple flew to the United States amid the pandemic to consult with a fertility specialist and find a surrogate mother, they revealed in an exclusive interview with MEGA Magazine yesterday, Oct. 30.
“So, meron na kaming isang perfect na embryo ta’s kailangan na lang namin maghanap ng perfect din na surrogate na magca-carry nu’n,” Trillo said in the interview. (We had one perfect embryo and we needed to find a perfect surrogate to carry it.)
The couple recalled that they considered the second surrogate they met as the “perfect” woman to carry their baby.
“Nakilala na namin ‘yung surrogate, mababait sila, tapos magpipirmahan na lang kami ng kontrata and iiinject na lang ‘yung embryo sa kanya ngayong October dapat,” Trillo added.
(We met the surrogate, she’s nice, then we were about to sign the contract and the embryo was supposed to be injected to her this October.)
However, their plans changed when Mercado started showing signs of pregnancy while in quarantine for a lock-in taping. The actress had headaches and acid reflux after a few weeks of taping and she often felt emotional about her surroundings.
She narrated that she cried during her stay in a hotel for her 10-day quarantine and her mood changed a lot at the time.
“Pagdating ko sa taping, sa set — kasi may kanya-kanyang villa naiyak na naman ako; ‘yung parang naiyak ako sa sobrang ganda. ‘Di ko maintindihan!” she was quoted as saying.
(When I went to the taping, on set, everyone had their own villa and I cried again, it was like I was crying because everything was so beautiful. I couldn’t understand it.)
Mercado and Trillo confirmed they are expecting a baby in an exclusive interview with “24 Oras” last Friday, Oct. 29.
They also announced their engagement, which they showed on the actress’ YouTube channel on the same day. Trillo popped the question last Oct. 8.
Trillo asked Mercado to marry him while a balloon arrangement glowed with a sign asking, “Marry me?” He also expressed excitement over the new “addition” to their family.
Mercado and Trillo have been in a relationship for seven years. The actress has one child, Alex Jazz, with her ex-boyfriend, actor Patrick Garcia. Meanwhile, Trillo had his son Calix with his former girlfriend, beauty queen Carlene Aguilar. Dana Cruz/JB
