It may just be one vote, but your vote is your voice—and it matters,” said actress Miles Ocampo, who posted on her Instagram account a video of her experience when she became a first-time registered voter some three weeks ago.

During a recent virtual media conference, the 24-year-old actress explained what she thought was the importance of what she did in terms of her being a Filipino citizen.

“I know I’m not the only one who is feeling frustrated with what’s happening for the past few months. Every time I watch the news, it makes me look forward to the May 2022 presidential elections even more,” Miles stressed. “I used to think voting is not worth the effort because mine is just one vote, anyway. But I’m very happy that those who belong to the Z generation like me are also going out to register.

“Now, we can prove that if we combine our votes, our voices will be loud enough to be heard. The result of our votes will be the reflection of our frustrations: that we want to see positive changes in our society,” Miles pointed out. “I’m happy to see a lot of people lining up to register. Our vote is our power.”

Michelle Vito, Miles’s costar in the Oct. 23 episode of the drama anthology “Maalaala Mo Kaya,” echoed the latter’s views. Michelle said: “To be honest, I could have already registered to vote during the past elections, but I chose not to. I didn’t care about making my vote count before. But I’m now feeling frustrated and I want to see change, and I believe that through voting, we will achieve that change.”

Michelle, 23, added that after registering to vote, the next step is to read up on the candidates who deserve our votes. “It’s now time to research on all of them. Looking back, I said, why didn’t I register earlier? Ang sarap ng feeling when I did it.”

Different kind of love

For their “MMK” episode, Miles and Michelle will show a different kind of love between two flight attendants/YouTube content creators. Amidst the different perceptions of people, Tanch Lobete (Michelle) and Sarah Garcia (Miles) will attest that two women are not only capable of finding love in each other, but also comfort and security.

When asked why she agreed to portray Sarah, Miles said: “I actually didn’t question why the role was being offered to me. What I asked was who I will be working with. This is because I know that no matter how beautiful the story is, if I’m not comfortable being with my coactor, then taping will be very hard and awkward,” recalled Miles. “When they told me it was Michelle, I got excited. What we found hard to do while taping was to control our laughter every time we would shoot scenes that required us to act sweet to each other.

“It’s our first time doing this kind of project. With the help of Direk Raz (de la Torre), who often reminded us to be sincere, we hope viewers will also feel the love and kilig.”

Like Miles, Michelle said she first asked about who her partner in the series would be. “I already felt good when they said it was Miles. It’s a big deal to know I’ll be working on a story like this with a good friend, especially since we have a lot of sweet moments here. Luckily, we didn’t feel awkward at all.”

Regardless of gender

Miles said they got the chance to meet the two lead characters on the set. “When I asked them questions, I noticed that they would often reply with: ‘Because we love each other.’ This story teaches us unconditional love, and shows us what a person would do for her partner.”

Asked what she learned from doing the episode, Michelle said, “That no one can dictate who you should and shouldn’t love; that you really can’t tell to whom your heart will beat for until you finally meet him or her. The right person will just come. He or she will be sent to you by God. You’ll be amazed at how easy things will be once you meet the right one for you, regardless of gender.”

“MMK’s” Oct. 2 episode featured the story of ex-”PBB” housemate Ralph Malibunas. All his life, Ralph (Jeremiah Lisbo) wanted to be an actor and a PBB housemate in order to make his OFW (overseas Filipino worker) mother, Grace (Lotlot de Leon), proud. But luck was not on his side as he fell short in the “PBB” auditions twice. The story focused on how Ralph was able to make it on his third try. The episode was directed by Chad Vidanes.

Aside from the brand-new episodes, viewers will have the chance to relive eerie stories in the episodes that featured Kim Chiu (Oct. 8) and Bela Padilla (Oct. 16)—perfect for the Halloween season!

On Oct. 30, Kapamilya viewers can rewatch the story of a father (Zanjoe Marudo) who tried his best to provide for his family, but got tricked by the people he has helped before.
