Precious chat with Karylle

KARYLLE

Just like a multifaceted diamond, Karylle has sparkled all the more after enduring love’s and life’s many battles—which makes her the perfect choice as the first-ever celebrity endorser of the jewelry brand Miladay.

As brand ambassador, Karylle jump-starts the 46-year-old jewelry company’s campaign with a video titled “Sacred Vows,” directed by Mark Meily.

“It is like being engaged to yourself. It is a brilliant concept that aims to inspire and remind people that loving one’s self is the key to one’s happiness,” Karylle says. “At this day and age, one does not need someone else to have an engagement ring or a dream diamond or any precious jewels, for that matter. It’s the best gift of love you can give yourself.”

I fondly call Karylle “Katniss” since she has a striking resemblance to Jennifer Lawrence (who portrays Katniss in “Hunger Games”). And just like the character in that blockbuster movie, she has definitely learned how to be her own hero, bejeweled and all.

If you were a jewel, what would you be and why?

I’d be a sapphire, precious and unique. Loved by royalty.

What’s your dream wedding like?

I haven’t thought about it. I do want my family and friends to be there to bless me and my husband-to-be. Since I will invite family and friends, a small wedding is out of the question. A memorable wedding that I attended was that of my friends Nicolo and Izza Hallare, in Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar in Bataan.

Has Yael (Yuzon) given you a ring or any piece of jewelry? How did you feel? If not yet, what’s his best gift so far?

A mockingjay pin. Alam mo naman ako, fan ng “Hunger Games” and feeling Katniss Everdeen. The fact that he took my Lola Kating on a shopping spree in Las Vegas is priceless.

How close are you to Dolphy?

I don’t get to see him much. I visited him a couple of times in the hospital.

The Miladay ad goes, “The new love of your life is You.” What’s one extravagant thing you’ve done or bought for yourself?

More of eating out. But I’m going to Miladay, papagawa ko ng bagong design yung mga jewelry na bigay ng mom ko at namana ko sa paternal lola ko.  I think they call it litter glitter.

Don’t you and Zia (Quizon) have sibling rivalry? Who do you think is the better singer, you or Zia?

I don’t think people realize how proud I am to be Zia’s sister. She has the most amazing voice. She has so much soul, no amount of technique can match that. Of course, siya ang may pinakamagandang voice sa amin. Plus, she’s so sweet and an amazing songwriter, too. When I first saw her onstage, I stopped judging people na (who are) stage mothers. Ganun pala talaga ang mararamdaman mo (That’s what you’ll feel). I can’t wait for mom, Zia and I to have a concert tour. Yun ang dream (That’s the dream) project ng (of) Lolo (Grandpa)Sonny Padilla ko. Assignment ko raw yun (That’s my assignment).

How’s your mom coping with Dolphy’s delicate situation?

Of course it’s hard because people don’t realize that she’s the breadwinner now. She has a lot of bills to pay because they have nurses and orderlies on the staff and she pays the hospital as well. She’s lucky to have many people who love her. I just wish her parents and siblings live close by— they are all in Vegas. But my sisters and I are here for her naman.
