Kris Aquino usually does not express support for beauty pageant candidates, but she just made an exception for Maria Corazon Abalos, who has the same name as her mother.

“I don’t do this for just anybody — but [her] full name is Maria Corazon (exactly like my mom’s),” the actress-TV host said while showing photos of Abalos on her Instagram page yesterday, Aug. 10.

Aquino further explained the reason why she is supporting the candidate, noting Abalos’ connection with her parents Corazon “Cory” Cojuangco Aquino and Benigno Simeon “Ninoy” Aquino Jr.

“Our relationship with her family goes all the way back pre-EDSA Revolution, plus her grandparents share the same initials as my dad (BSA) and my mom (CCA), then obviously alam nyo na (you know that) [Corrine Abalos] has my full support for Miss Universe Philippines,” she added.

Aquino told fans that Abalos is deserving of the Miss Universe Philippines crown, believing the candidate will perform well in the beauty pageant’s question-and-answer portion.

“I have never been afraid to make my choices known and since we do live in a democracy pwede kayong mag-disagree (you can disagree) with me, but Corinne is a worthy candidate,” she said. “[Corrine is] educated in Poveda and she graduated from [De La Salle University] in 2019 with a degree in AB International Studies Major in European Studies. Definitely, hindi tayo mapapahiya sa Q&A (we won’t be embarrassed in the Q&A).”

Abalos, who represents Mandaluyong, was one of the candidates who made it to the top 15 of Miss Universe Philippines’ headshot and introduction video challenges. She also made it to the pageant’s top 75.  /ra
