Former matinee idol William Martinez, who has been separated from his wife Yayo Aguila for 11 years now, shares this bittersweet experience about their four children.
In an interview for the vlog “TicTalk with Aster Amoyo,” William talked about his children being so much different from how he and his siblings were like when they were still young.
“It’s not right to compare them to our generation. How children these days think is very different from how we were like back then. For example, we would ask permission and say ‘goodbye’ to grown-ups first before we leave. My kids aren’t like that. In their minds, they think they can survive on their own; [they can go wherever they want] without letting you know. You must not get offended by this. This is just how they really are like.”

Be patient
William said he has learned to adjust to this. “What you do is be patient with them; wait for them to finally remember you. When I just had a stroke two years ago, I would cry whenever I feel like my children don’t remember me anymore. I have been living on my own for the longest time,” said the dad of Patrizha, Danielle, Dana and Adam. “I know I must not force them to see me,” said the semi-retired actor. “You don’t order them. They have their own lives to live, and you have to respect that.” INQ
