Grammy-winning British singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran will finally release his new solo single soon—his first after a four-year break.
“The moment you realise your first solo single in 4 years is coming out in a few weeks,” Sheeran posted on Facebook yesterday, June 10, sharing a photo in which he appears comically nervous.
Sheeran’s new album will be the fourth installment in his series of albums, which fans can expect to be titled along the lines of “- (Minus)” or “Subtract.” His first three were titled “+ (Plus)” (2011), “x (Multiply)” (2014) and “÷ (Divide)” (2017).
His four-year hiatus was not really a total break, however, as Sheeran still worked on some music during that time. For one, he released in December last year “Afterglow,” which is a song that he noted will not be a part of his upcoming album.
In 2019, he also dropped the collaborative studio album titled “No. 6 Collaboration Project,” where he partnered with several artists including Khalid, Chance the Rapper, Eminem and H.E.R., among others.
Sheeran’s “Divide” was, meanwhile, released in March 2017, which earned him the Global Recording Artist of 2017 title. With the said album, he also became the first to win both the best-selling album and single of the year, with “Shape of You,” as per Billboard on Feb. 19.
During his long break, Sheeran also tied the knot with Cherry Seaborn. They also welcomed their first child, Lyra, in September 2020. /ra
