OPM icon and Jukebox King Victor Wood has succumbed to complications caused by COVID-19 this morning, April 23. He was 75 years old.

Director Carlo Ortega Cuevas, who worked on Wood’s upcoming biopic “Jukebox King: The Life Story of Victor Wood,” paid tribute to the late singer via Facebook this afternoon.

(My condolences to the family of the father of OPM, Jukebox King Victor Wood. I am lucky that before God made him rest, I got to hear from Wood himself his story, which is now part of history.)

(It is a long and fruitful story about life, fame, fall, rise… and death. While he was talking about his childhood, I felt like I was growing up with him.)

The director noted that it was an honor to have worked with the Jukebox King himself, stressing that he will never forget the lessons he learned from him.

In another post, Cuevas shared with fans a video of Wood singing “Fraulein,” one of the late musician’s many hits, while he played the guitar.

Wood, who rose to fame back in the 1970s, is known for several classics such as “Mr. Lonely,” “In Despair,” “Eternally,” “I’m Sorry My Love,” “I Went to Your Wedding” and “Carmelita.”

The veteran musician passed away at around 9 a.m. at the New Era General Hospital in Quezon City, his wife, Nerissa, confirmed to ABS-CBN News. Ian Biong /ra
