Nikki Valdez opened up about her experience with COVID-19 after she and her husband Luis Garcia survived the disease.

“This was taken the day my husband and I found out we were COVID positive,” the actress said as she showed a photo of herself smiling ang giving a thumbs-up on her Instagram page last Saturday, April 10.

She said that she sent the photo to family members and friends despite her situation at the time, as she wanted to keep an optimistic outlook.

“I guess I just somehow knew in my heart that even with worst going on now and us being infected by the virus, there will be a light at the end of this dark tunnel we are all passing through,” she added.

Valdez also showed a photo of an at-home celebratory dinner she had with her family on her first day post-recovery, through an Instagram post on April 9.

“Two weeks ago, my husband and I tested positive for COVID — a most dreaded situation not any one of us would want to be in,” Valdez said, adding that she did not know how to react when she first learned about their test results.

She also recalled that their first few days with COVID-19 symptoms were the hardest to go through, explaining that there were days when she felt fine but others when the symptoms were worse. During their first seven days of self-isolation, she and her husband experienced body aches, mild dry coughs and a “flu-like feeling” despite having normal body temperatures.

“COVID is more than a virus. It will toy not only with your physical health but mostly with your emotions. And so today, that agony has ended,” she said.

For Valdez, surviving COVID-19 and going through two weeks of isolation gave her a “healthier perspective on things” and allowed her family to grow stronger. She also expressed gratitude for her family, friends and monitoring doctors who made sure that she and Garcia would get well.

The actress reminded people that COVID-19 is real, and urged others to focus on positive things despite the difficult situation. JB
