‘A Thousand Cuts’ bags docu prize in Gotham

“It is a recognition by my peers and colleagues in the documentary community whom I respect tremendously,” said filmmaker Ramona Diaz of the best documentary trophy she got for “A Thousand Cuts” from the 30th Independent Filmmaker Project (IFP) Gotham Awards in New York City.

“I am thrilled beyond measure to receive the award,” the California-based director also said of the recognition that she shared with Garrett Bradley, director of “Time.”

“A Thousand Cuts” tells the story of journalist Maria Ressa, who “risks her life and freedom as an outspoken critic of Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte’s war on drugs.”
