MANILA, Philippines — Jessica Sanchez, the Filipino-Mexican who has wowed audiences worldwide with her gift of song, is now in the top 3 of the popular talent show “American Idol”.
This is the second time that a contestant of Philippine descent made it to the top 3 of the popular talent show. The first was Jasmine Trias in Season 3.
Hollie Cavanagh was voted out of the competition, leaving Sanchez, Joshua Ledet and Philip Philips to vie for the top prize. On Thursday (Manila time) Sanchez received a standing ovation from “Idol” judges Randy Jackson, Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez for her rendition of Jennifer Holiday’s hit “And I’m Telling You I’m Not Going.”
After being told that she was safe, Holiday tweeted: “Thank you, oh merciful God 4 making sweet Jessica safe! Only u Lord took Jay from the bottom3 2 the top 3! Sing soul angel!” Holiday, in her twitter account @Jennifersspot, urged her followers to vote for Sanchez.
