MANILA, Philippines—Live performances and events took a dive in 2020 because of COVID-19 pandemic and quarantine restrictions.
Big ticket events scheduled at the Smart- Araneta Coliseum were cancelled, including Korean singer Ong Seong-Wu’s February gig, and the 2020 Binibining Pilipinas pageant in May.
But after almost a year, the “Big Dome” is set to open its doors once again on Sunday, January 17 with the live staging of the sixth annual Wish Music Awards.
The will be no live audience, however, for the event to be hosted by “Kapamilya” Gretchen Ho and “Kapuso” Christian Bautista.
Instead, those who wish to watch the program may do so by tuning in to Wish FM’s official YouTube channel.
Online viewers are in for a musical treat, as OPM icon Parokya ni Edgar is set to perform, along with the first “Australian Idol” Guy Sebastian.
Other performers on tap are Ben&Ben, Gloc-9, SB19 and KZ Tandingan.
Likewise performing are Clara Benin, Leanne and Narra, Michael Pacquiao, Keiko Necesario, the vocal group The Wishfuls, and Reese Lansangan.
Winners from 20 categories will be announced, including the newly-created category “Best Quarantine-Produced Song.”
The last big event staged at the Smart Araneta Coliseum was the sold-out Valentine collaboration between “Asia’s Songbird” Regine Velasquez and “Popstar Royalty” Sarah Geronimo in February.
