After welcoming her second child, Meryll Soriano has opened up on the challenges of being pregnant at her age.
The 38-year-old actress recalled that her doctor informed her it would be “risky and difficult,” she wrote in an Instagram post on Friday, Jan. 8.
“I had anxiety over this on the latter part of my pregnancy,” she admitted.
Soriano teased her newborn last Dec. 30 on Instagram, and confirmed that she had given birth to her child with actor Joem Bascon on New Year’s Day.
She revealed that around the sixth or seventh month of pregnancy, she acquired gestational diabetes. “Which meant 4 x a day of glucose tests, 4 x a day of insulin shots and nth goodbyes to donuts, chocolates and cakes until I give birth.”
Soriano adopted a regimen to boost her health for her and her baby: “I worked out 4-5 x a week, healthy food intake and baby yoga as much as I could. It was hard work and it was difficult and tiring most of the time.”
Her efforts paid off — she was able to have a normal birth delivery after 10 hours of labor.
Soriano also gave credit to Bascon for supporting her through the difficult time.
“He helped me stay on track. He stopped buying Cloud 9 and HawHaw. He did pregnant workouts with me,” she recounted. “And, there are no words to explain the taking-care-of-me part. He’s the best. Thank you so much, Dud.”
“Thank you for taking care of me — now US. Your love is unparalleled,” she told Bascon in another post yesterday, Jan. 10.
Thanks to her successful pregnancy, the actress was also able to fulfill her elder son’s wish. Elijah, her son with ex-husband Bernard Palanca, had been hoping for a sibling since he was 10.
Soriano and Bascon, who dated back in 2009, were rumored to have reunited after working on the 2019 teleserye “Starla.” JB
