Several celebrities have spoken out against a statement made by a police chief, who claimed that gay men become straight when they get drunk, referring to the unsolved case of 23-year-old flight attendant Christine Dacera.
Broadway icon Lea Salonga, for one, rushed to the defense of the LGBTQ community by translating from Filipino to English a tweet made by fashion designer Rajo Laurel, who emphasized that gay men’s sexual orientation do not change because of alcohol consumption.
“A drunk gay is a drunk gay. A drunk gay is a noisy gay. A drunk gay is a quiet gay. A drunk gay is a more beautiful gay. A drunk gay is a fighting gay. A drunk gay is a goddess gay. A gay is always gay. Long live the gays!” Salonga tweeted yesterday, Jan. 6.
A drunk gay is a drunk gay
A drunk gay is a noisy gay
A drunk gay is a quiet gay
A drunk gay is a more beautiful gay
A drunk gay is a fighting gay
A drunk gay is a goddess gay
A gay is always gay
Long live the gays!Pardon my translation skills! They need work! https://t.co/JiiB0iqikA

“Hindi nagiging lalaki ang mga bakla pag lasing! Nagigi kaming Diyosa! Yung iba, #SexBomb,” actor-director John Lapus meanwhile quipped as he defended his fellow gay men yesterday, also mentioning a popular female dance group to stress his point.
(Gay men do not turn straight when they get drunk! We turn into goddesses! Some of us, #SexBomb.)

DJ Chacha then shared Lapus’ tweet, noting that people who agree with the police’s statement must have never experienced drinking with gays before.
“Kaya nagtataka ko sa mga nagsasabi niyan at naniniwala diyan sa statement na yan, hindi pa naranasan yata makipagwalwalan sa mga beks!” she posted yesterday.
(That is why I cannot understand those who say and believe that statement, they must have never experienced getting wasted with gays before!)

Barbie Imperial likewise shared Lapus’s sentiments, tweeting also yesterday, “Bakit yung mga kaibigan ko nagiging sexbomb girls? May kanya kanya pang sexbomb name.”
(Then why do my [gay] friends become SexBomb girls [when they get drunk]? They even have their own SexBomb names.)
PNP: Kahit bakla yan, kapag nakainom yan, nagiging lalake yan.

Comedienne K Brosas also defended the LGBTQ community, quipping that her gay friends always refuse to kiss her even when they get drunk.
“[Hoy] ilang beses nako nalasing kasama mga beki, ilang beses na kaming nag spin the bottle ayaw nila ako i kiss sh*t*nginamez!” she tweeted also yesterday.
(Hey, I have been drunk several times with gays, and we have also played spin the bottle several times but they never wanted to kiss me!)
pnp— kahit bakla yan pag nakainom ng alak nagiging lalake yan!

Social media star Inka Magnaye meanwhile cannot help but question the Philippine National Police’s (PNP) credibility because of the said statement.
“The PNP said that gay men become straight when they’re drunk and you believe everything else that comes out of their mouths?” she stressed on Twitter also yesterday.

The outcry from the said celebrities, along with many other individuals and LGBT groups, comes after Makati City police chief Col. Harold Depositar made the statement in a recent interview regarding Dacera’s case.
“Lalaki pa din sila. May instinct ‘yan and… you know, lalo na if you’re under the influence of intoxicating alcohol, and kung may presence of drugs pa — lalo na,” Depositar alleged, referring to the gay men who were with Dacera before her death.
(They are still men. They have instincts, you know, most especially if they are under the influence of alcohol and the presence of drugs.)
Days after her tragic death on New Year’s Day, Dacera’s case remains unsolved as the Makati Prosecutors Office deems the police’s evidence as “insufficient” to determine that the flight attendant was indeed raped and murdered.
Makati police earlier claimed the case as “closed” and on Jan. 4 lodged a provisional charge of rape with homicide against the 11 men who last accompanied Dacera, even without autopsy findings and a toxicology report.
Gregorio De Guzman, who was among the 11 men, stressed in his Jan. 5 interview on “Teleradyo” that he is a member of the LGBTQ community, as are his other companions at their New Year’s Eve party at the City Garden Grand Hotel in Makati.
De Guzman, who said he has never had sexual relations with a woman, also noted that it was impossible for Dacera to have been raped and murdered during their party. JB
